William Schievella

Vice Chair

William Schievella serves as Vice Chair of the Board of L.E.A.D. — Law Enforcement Against Drugs & Violence — a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to protecting young people through evidence-based drug and violence prevention education delivered by law enforcement.

Mr. Schievella currently serves as Community Policing and Public Affairs Coordinator at the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office in New Jersey, where he develops community policing and outreach initiatives in partnership with community groups, clergy, elected officials, and media. He also serves as Director of the Police Studies Institute and Professor of Criminal Justice at Saint Elizabeth University.

His law enforcement career spans the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, where he served as Director of Communications and Community Policing; the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, where he served as Undersheriff; and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, where he retired in 2014 as Chief of Detectives. He also served at the New Jersey State Parole Board, overseeing law enforcement operations in Bergen, Morris, and Passaic counties, and as Task Force Coordinator for the New Jersey State Parole Homeland Security Task Force.

Mr. Schievella holds a B.A. in Criminal Justice from Caldwell College, a Master’s in Administration and Post-Master’s in Global Terrorism from Fairleigh Dickinson University, and is a graduate of the West Point Command & Leadership Program and the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Program at Princeton University. He is a lifetime member of the New Jersey Narcotics Enforcement Officers Association Board of Directors, Past President of the County Chiefs of Detectives Associations of New Jersey, and current President of the Italian American Police Society of New Jersey.
